PESHAWAR:

As if Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Founder Imran Khan did not have enough on his plate, local government representatives in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have announced a series of protests that will begin on December 17 outside Adiala Jail where he is incarcerated.

The LG reps are set to demonstrate against the unfair distribution of funds. This will be followed by another protest in front of Parliament on the same day.

On December 18, protests will be held outside the Chief Minister's House and K-P Assembly in Peshawar.

This decision was made during a meeting of the Action Local Councils Association held at Jinnah Park, Peshawar. The moot was chaired by the council's chairman and Mardan Mayor Himayatullah Mayar. The meeting was attended by chairpersons of tehsil, village, and neighborhood councils from across the province.

During detailed discussions on the challenges facing local governments, speakers highlighted the lack of authority and funds for elected local representatives, despite the 2021-2022 local elections in K-P.

Coordinator Intizar Khalil stated that after extensive consultations, the president of the Action Council, Himayatullah Mayar, issued a unanimous declaration announcing the protest schedule.

The peaceful protest on December 17 outside Adiala Jail aims to highlight to the PTI founder the alleged failure of his provincial government to uphold justice and the rule of law by depriving local governments of their powers and funds.
