Buckle up, Trump show to begin

Trump's second term: unrestrained, ruthless, and driven by instant gratification and foreign policy clashes.

Trump was never the president who was worried about his legacy. This time around, he wouldn't even be worried about re-election. As good as I can foresee, we are going to see Trump in his most raw form. Far from worrying about legacy in the future, he has always been driven by a deep desire for instant gratification. That is the reason he was the leading American politician to start using Twitter. He was not only able to bypass gatekeepers of information, but could also see instant results in real time.

The first time around, he had been loud about banning Muslims from entering America and that was the first thing that he did in his office. While in reality it was not a Muslim ban per se, it was the running title of it. This time around, he has issued a warning for the Israeli hostages to be returned before his taking charge of the Oval Office or else Hamas would have "all hell to pay". We have to understand one little nuance here: Trump is the president who has not waged a single war with another country but he has to have an enemy for him to bash and threaten.

His was a larger nuclear button than the button North Korea's Kim had. The deep state was out to get him, which may not be actually a lie. Europe had to pay for the security America provided. America under Trump may not have wars but Trump ruling over America will have wars.

My guess is Trump is going to be ruthless this time once he takes charge. He may start with the usual Muslim ban style announcement for instant gratification. And then he is going to go after all those who had done him wrong in his mind, which again Trump may not be wrong about. He was banned by Twitter during the last crucial moments of the election four years ago. His entire presidency last time around was spent in justifying his continued existence as president. His term started off with the Mueller-led investigation, which was trying to establish the fact that Putin had helped him win the election. Then he was impeached. And then he was impeached once again. The media –including both the traditional Democratic friendly liberal as well as what Trump called fake news, namely CNN, which again Trump may not be wrong about - had unleashed a barrage of attacks targeting Trump during their 24 hour cycle.

People from his inner circle, including Michael Cohen, had testified against him. Then there was that pornstar hush money fiasco. Even his own party's former president George W Bush had sort of endorsed Biden. Imagine when a cornered and wounded tiger fights back and wins the fight. That is how ruthless Trump is going to be in executing the office of the President of the United States. Not that Biden was any friend of the planet, but Trump is going to undo whatever tiny steps Biden may have taken in tackling climate change.

Foreign policy is a bustling market of raw emotions for Trump. Any nation that might say or do something that may not necessarily affect America but if it rubs Trump the wrong way, some of us newspaper lovers would have some delicious pages to consume day after day.

From here on out, it might be a very bumpy ride. Trump will say awful things about different countries, he might utter racist things about certain people, he might also insult a lot of leaders and a lot of people. But one thing is for certain: it is going to be quite entertaining. The next four years are going to be filled with uncertain and aggressive turns into political news full of spice and laughter. Pakistanis have seen and experienced so much turmoil especially in the last two years that nothing that Trump will say or do, short of a nuclear war, will rattle them.
