The Sindh government has announced a two-month deadlione to complete the construction of 40 People's Bus Service stops.

Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the construction of 100 bus stops for the People's Bus Service had already been completed, and the remaining stops would be finished as soon as possible.

Sharjeel Inam Memon mentioned that by January 2025, the remaining 40 bus stops would also be completed. He emphasised that the Sindh government is eager to modernize the transport system and align it with global standards.

He highlighted that the state-of-the-art bus stops for the People’s Bus Service are crucial as they will provide passengers with comfortable seating and protection from the weather.

The meeting also decided to implement mandatory fitness checks for vehicles across Sindh. Sharjeel Memon stressed that ensuring vehicle fitness is essential for road safety and environmental protection. He instructed the Secretary of Transport to take strict measures to ensure the vehicle fitness checks are conducted.

Sharjeel Inam Memon further stated that measures will be taken every year to ensure mandatory vehicle fitness checks, and strict actions will be taken against vehicle owners who fail to comply with fitness regulations.

The Sindh Peoples Intra-District Project is a government-to-government (G2G) initiative between the Sindh government and NRTC. It was launched in June 2022 and is the first-ever Intra-City Public Transport Project operating in mixed traffic, especially in Karachi and other cities of Sindh, such as Larkana, Hyderabad, and Sukkur.

The Project is basically for the Public and is to be operated/run through the Public Private Partnership.

Last month the Sindh government approved a project to enhance Karachi’s public transport system with the introduction of 500 fully electric buses, a step expected to modernise the city’s commuting network and reduce air pollution.

Previously The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to transition public and commercial transport in the city to electric vehicles (EVs).

As part of this initiative, the CDA will introduce new regulations to facilitate the establishment of EV charging stations at all petrol pumps in Islamabad.

The decision was made during a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa on Friday. The meeting also reviewed proposals for introducing digital advertisements on metro buses, EV buses, and bus stations to generate additional revenue.
