115 projects underway at education dept

Rs1b allocated to uplift science labs in govt colleges

Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Asif Hyder Shah has reviewed the progress of development projects, ongoing schemes, and future initiatives aimed at modernising the education sector in the province.

The review was undertaken during a meeting of the College Education Department which the chief secretary presided over on Thursday. Attendees included College Education Secretary Asif Ikram, Services Secretary Ghulam Ali Brahmani, Implementation and Coordination Secretary Shahab Qamar Ansari, and senior officials of the department.

Ikram gave a briefing to participants, saying that 115 development projects are currently underway with a total budget of Rs28.749 million. These projects are focused on improving educational infrastructure across Sindh, including the construction of new college buildings in rural and underserved areas, which will provide modern facilities to thousands of students.

Among the major initiatives, Rs1billion has been allocated for upgrading science laboratories in 30 colleges and establishing state-of-the-art libraries in 20 institutions. Moreover, Rs1.5billion has been earmarked for the development of IT infrastructure, including smart classrooms, and each college will receive five computers to enhance digital learning.

The chief secretary said that the government will allocate Rs500,000 to each college for student programs such as exhibitions and co-curricular activities. He stressed that these initiatives will help foster students' intellectual and creative growth by providing them with opportunities to showcase their talents.
