HFH gets Rs600m power upgrade
The Planning and Development Department (PDD) has approved the revised PC-1 of the external electricity system for Holy Family Hospital (HFH) with Rs600 million after the upgradation, renovation and revamp of the city's largest hospital in Rs3 billion.
The revised PC-1 includes load management, new transfer generators, HTLT, oxygen lines and other equipment. The new project was approved during a meeting held in Lahore on December 5.
The work on the revised PC-1 will be completed by December 31, 2024, after which all departments including operation theatres, ICU, CCU, emergency, CT scan, MRI and other machinery connected to the power system will be able to continue power supply under a foolproof system.
HFH, a 1,052-bed hospital, has the capacity to increase the number of beds for indoor patients from 1,300 to 1,400. The hospital's building, established before the creation of Pakistan, was later expanded. However, due to the lack of a complete revamp of the building over the last 40 years, the treatment arrangements were badly affected.
Sensing the problems, the Punjab government approved a Rs3b project for the complete revamping, renovation and upgradation of the hospital building. The infirmary remained closed for almost a year. Now, the PDD has approved the revised PC-1 worth Rs600m million for the external electricity system.
HFH Medical Superintendent Dr Ijaz Butt says the external electricity system of the hospital will be completed by the end of this month, not at the cost of patients' treatment.
The Vice Chancellor of the Rawalpindi Medical University, Professor Dr Muhammad Umar says with the completion of the revamp, renovation and upgradation of the project, the hospital is now a transformed hospital with the best cleanliness system. "Modern lighting system in all departments, best-serving beds, electro-medical equipment, operation theatres, laboratory, blood bank, parking and security system have been completely overhauled."
He adds that the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) has now been given the status of the Rawalpindi Teaching Hospital and its revamping and renovation have already been completed.
