Ralph Fiennes, who famously portrayed Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter film franchise, has shared his thoughts on who should take over the iconic villain's role in the upcoming HBO series. During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Fiennes expressed his support for Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy, calling him "a fantastic actor" and agreeing that Murphy would be an excellent choice.
“I would be all in favor of Cillian,” Fiennes said when a viewer suggested the actor. Murphy, known for his intense performances in films like Inception and Peaky Blinders, is a top contender for many fans eager to see the Harry Potter universe brought to life on the small screen.
Fiennes first brought the dark wizard Voldemort to life in 2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and reprised the role in subsequent films, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007), Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009), and the two-part finale Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (2010-2011).
The highly anticipated Harry Potter TV series, set to premiere in 2026, will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling's beloved books. The series is being produced by HBO and will delve deep into the stories and characters that have captivated fans worldwide. Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, known for their work on Succession, will lead the creative team as showrunner and director, respectively.
Fans are eager to see how the series will reimagine the wizarding world for television, with a new cast and fresh perspectives, as it explores the magical universe in even greater detail.
