Noah Lyles silences 'rematch' questions with IShowSpeed- ‘Let's find somebody faster’
Noah Lyles has firmly shut down the idea of a rematch with popular streamer IShowSpeed after their highly anticipated race at the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The race, which was initially set for 100 meters, was shortened to 50 meters after IShowSpeed's request. The two faced off with $100,000 on the line, a sum which Lyles later donated to his foundation.
While IShowSpeed had a strong start, Lyles’ Olympic gold medal-winning speed was too much for the streamer, and the race ended with Lyles crossing the finish line first. Despite this, IShowSpeed, who had hoped for a closer competition, initially called the race a tie before ultimately accepting defeat. He quickly challenged Lyles to a rematch, confident that he could outdo the Olympic champion.
However, Lyles has made it clear that he’s not interested in a rematch. Speaking at the Las Vegas GP, Lyles responded to questions about the possibility of racing IShowSpeed again. "I gave 20 percent of my effort in that race," he explained. "Kudos to him for giving his all, but I’m moving on to bigger and better things. Let’s find somebody faster," Lyles stated with confidence, effectively closing the door on the idea of another race with IShowSpeed.
Lyles also reflected on the trend of athletes from various sports challenging him to races after his success at the Paris Olympics. While he expressed openness to future challenges, he made it clear that these would not be for the title of "fastest man in the world." The gold medalist emphasized that his achievement came after years of hard work and dedication, and others attempting to race him should not expect to win that title easily.
One challenge already on the horizon is a race between Lyles and NFL wide receiver Tyreek Hill, which is reportedly set to take place next year. Lyles has indicated that he’s open to these kinds of challenges but reiterated that they would not be for the world’s fastest title.
As Lyles looks forward to future races, it’s clear that he is focused on more serious competitors, and he's not distracted by the spectacle of celebrity challenges. With the eyes of the world on him, Lyles continues to set his sights on achieving even greater feats on the track.
