PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has allocated a specific job quota of 0.5 per cent for transgender individuals in government departments.

To be eligible for recruitment, transgender candidates must register with the Department of Zakat and Ushr as well as the Department of Women Development.

This initiative has moved into the implementation phase, focusing on appointments up to Grade 15 positions. Transgender applicants will need to meet the required qualifications and criteria for the relevant posts to secure these roles.

This development marks a significant step toward inclusivity and ensuring equal employment opportunities for marginalized communities in the province.

The idea of introducing a transgender job quota in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is a progressive step aimed at fostering inclusivity and addressing systemic discrimination faced by the transgender community.

This marginalised group, often ostracized socially and economically, has long struggled with limited access to education, healthcare.
