SUKKUR:

As many as 42,000 farmers - including 1,000 women - have been registered for the Benazir Hari Card in Sukkur and Ghotki districts. The Sindh government's Hari Card initiative, which aims to register 1.5 million farmers across the province, is designed to provide financial assistance to farmers, enabling them to purchase essential agricultural inputs such as seeds, fertilisers, and other supplies at subsidised rates.

While addressing a ceremony organised to distribute Hari Cards at a local banquet hall in Rohri on Friday, Sindh Minister for Agriculture said that the Hari Card was launched on the directives of PPP Chairman Bilawal to offer much-needed relief to farmers. Sindh government's agricultural extension staff has made significant progress in registering farmers, with a total of 336,000 farmers already enrolled, of which 298,000 are eligible for the wheat subsidy program under the Benazir Hari Card. He added that Rs18 billion has already been disbursed to beneficiaries.

The Benazir Hari Card is a multi-purpose ATM card that will enable direct transfers of government subsidies to farmers. The program will be rolled out in two phases: in the first phase, farmers with 1-25 acres of land will be registered, while in the second phase, farmers with larger holdings will also be included, with no upper limit on land size.
