PML-N wins Pindi Cantt by-election

A total of 6,293 votes were cast at 27 polling stations.

The candidate of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged victorious in the by-election for Ward 6 of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board held on Thursday. A total of 6,293 votes were cast at 27 polling stations.

Haji Tariq Rajput of PML-N secured 2,011 votes, winning the seat. Jibran Haider, an independent candidate backed by Jamaat-e-Islami, came in second with 1,329 votes, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Pirzada Zeeshan Ali took third place with 1,284 votes.

Other candidates included Adil Azam Butt of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) with 900 votes and Malik Abdul Rauf of the Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP) with 705 votes. Independent candidates Aijaz Ahmad, Tayyab Iftikhar and Zeeshan secured 39, six, and nine votes, respectively.

The Returning Officer, Additional CEO of the Cantonment Board, Haider Shuja, confirmed the results. Voter turnout was relatively low, with only 6,293 votes cast out of a total of 36,534 registered voters.

The seat became vacant following the election of PML-N member Malik Mansoor Afzal as an MPA. During the polling, prominent PML-N leaders, including Barrister Daniyal Chaudhry, Malik Abrar Ahmed, MPA Malik Mansoor Afzal, along with PTI's Ziad Khaliq Kayani, Behroz Basharat and Raja Ahmed Nasir Raja visited polling stations to monitor the process.
