RAWALPINDI:

New Town police have arrested a car driver who allegedly attempted to run over a traffic warden at the 6th Road Chowk on Murree Road in Rawalpindi when the cop flagged him down over a violation. According to a spokesperson for the Rawalpindi police, the incident took place on Monday.

The suspect, identified as Malik Taimur Ahmad, was apprehended by New Town police after a brief manhunt.

The spokesperson said the incident occurred on November 12, when Traffic Assistant Muhammad Zameer signalled Ahmad to stop for driving against traffic. When asked for his documents, Ahmad reportedly sped off, attempting to run down the officer and dragging him for a short distance. The incident was caught on video, which quickly circulated on social media, prompting action from the authorities.

New Town police registered a case against the suspect under charges including attempted murder. Police tracked him down using the vehicle's registration information. The accused, who holds a private job in Islamabad and is said to be a resident of Hazro in Attock, was taken into custody and is expected to face legal proceedings in the coming days.
