The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted light rainfall across most districts of Punjab starting Thursday, offering a much-needed reprieve to residents suffering from severe smog.
According to the forecast, rain is expected from November 14 to 16, with key areas such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Jehlum, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Mianwali, Khushab, and Sargodha likely to experience showers.
Additionally, on November 15, areas like Bhakkar, Layyah, and Dera Ghazi Khan are anticipated to witness rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), stated that the expected rainfall could help reduce smog levels. He advised citizens to wear masks and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the wet conditions.
He also urged the public to refrain from non-essential travel due to the adverse weather.
Punjab is currently in the grip of smog with its capital, Lahore, being the most polluted city in the world. Data indicates that Lahore's air quality index (AQI) is nearly 74 times above the World Health Organisation's recommended limit, reaching a hazardous level of 588 on average.
