KARACHI:

A three-year-old girl died after allegedly being administered a wrong injection at a private clinic in Akhtar Colony on Tuesday, sparking outrage in the family which is demanding justice and calling for stricter regulation of medical practices.

According to Muhammad Mithal, the acting SHO of Mehmoodabad police station, Shizza alias Shezadi was taken to a clinic in Akhtar Colony two days ago due to a high fever. The attending doctor administered an injection to the girl, but when swelling appeared on her hip, the family returned to the clinic the next day for further treatment.

However, on Monday night, the family rushed her to JPMC after her condition deteriorated, but she passed away early Tuesday morning despite the doctors' effort to save her life. The hospital performed a postmortem examination at the request of the family to determine the cause of death before the body was taken home for burial.

Local residents were shocked and angered by the incident, claiming that the girl was given an expired injection that caused an adverse reaction, leading to her death. Police stated that they will take further legal action based on the postmortem report. The doctor in charge of the clinic, Dr Ijaz Ahmad, has reportedly fled the area, and the clinic has been shut down.
