In the first Saturday Night Live “Weekend Update” since Donald Trump’s election victory, co-anchor Michael Che brought both humor and pointed satire to the segment, reflecting on the surprise outcome and its cultural implications.

Che, visibly ready to unwind with a drink on air, joked, “How did I let y’all convince me that rural Pennsylvania would pick the Jamaican Indian lady?” The segment saw Che taking comedic jabs at liberal optimism, poking fun at Trump’s widespread appeal and comparing Trump supporters’ loyalty to his own unapologetic enjoyment of R. Kelly’s music. “Y’all gonna let a man with 34 felonies lead the free world? That’s it, I’m listening to R. Kelly again,” Che quipped.

Che’s co-anchor, Colin Jost, joined in the satire, humorously questioning Trump’s promise of a “golden age” for America and poking fun at Vice President-elect JD Vance’s recent Catholic conversion.

The segment ended with Che highlighting the rapid financial gains of the world’s wealthiest post-election, adding, “But don’t worry, I’m sure yours is coming soon, Earl!” This SNL moment resonated with viewers, using humor to offer social commentary on the election’s unexpected results and the country’s political landscape.
