Disney and Lucasfilm are set to launch a new Star Wars trilogy with writer-producer Simon Kinberg, known for his work on the X-Men and Deadpool franchises, according to a recent report from Deadline.
This new trilogy may comprise Episodes X-XII, adding to the iconic Skywalker Saga that began with George Lucas's Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope in 1977. However, some sources suggest the trilogy could introduce a new saga rather than continuing the Skywalker storyline.
Kinberg, who shared his enthusiasm by posting a photo of the Deadline article, wrote, “A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, I was a little kid who wanted to tell stories because I saw a movie called Star Wars…” He has an extensive background in blockbuster films, including X-Men: Days of Future Past and Fantastic Four. His prior work with Lucasfilm includes consulting on Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens and Rogue One.
This project will mark Star Wars' first return to theaters since 2019's Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker. Disney's film slate for the franchise includes a The Mandalorian movie scheduled for May 2026, along with other standalone projects from directors like James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.
Obaid-Chinoy's film will explore a new Jedi Order set 15 years post-sequel trilogy. Despite ongoing Star Wars content on Disney+, fans eagerly anticipate this big-screen trilogy, as details about Kinberg’s approach remain limited. Whether the new films continue the Skywalker Saga or embark on a fresh journey, this upcoming trilogy promises to further expand the beloved universe.
