Foreign currency notes, luxury cellphones, and costly clothes were tossed over guests during a wedding in Sialkot, creating a social media sensation.
In a viral video, friends of the groom, who recently returned from the United Kingdom, are seen showering currency notes and mobile phones from a balcony onto the delighted crowd below.
The footage captures guests, including children, eagerly catching the currency notes. As the wedding procession (barat) later reached Narowal, expensive suits and additional currency notes were distributed among attendees, adding to the festivity.
Extravagant wedding celebrations are not uncommon in Pakistan, where some ceremonies extend over a week.
In June, a wedding in Punjab’s Kot Addu district attracted attention when a groom’s uncle gifted him a 30-foot-long currency garland worth Rs500,000, made of Rs50 and Rs100 notes, becoming a focal point for selfies and admiration.
The lavish display at the Sialkot wedding has sparked reactions online, highlighting the cultural traditions and grandiose displays typical of weddings in the region.
