Donald Trump files $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News over Kamala Harris interview
Former President Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News, alleging that the network manipulated an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris to influence the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
Filed in Texas federal court, the suit accuses CBS of “malicious and deceptive” editing of the interview, intending to “tip the scales” in favor of Harris. Trump's legal team claims the network’s approach distorted Harris’s responses to questions about U.S. foreign policy, creating a misleading portrayal to benefit the Democratic candidate.
Trump’s legal team has requested a jury trial, asserting that CBS’s actions amount to election interference. The case is anticipated to be assigned to Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, a Trump appointee. Trump's attorneys argue that media outlets, including CBS, attempted to present Harris in a favorable light while downplaying her “disqualifying gaffes” and alleged policy failures.
CBS News has defended its editing process, stating that Harris’s responses were shown in full, split across two broadcasts. In a recent statement, the network clarified that the edit was “succinct” to allow for additional topics, and affirmed that it applies consistent standards across interviews.
Trump has previously sued major media networks, including CNN and The New York Times, without success. In this latest claim, he seeks to challenge what he describes as partisan media practices, targeting CBS’s coverage just days before the 2024 Election Day.
