Warner Bros. is reportedly in the early stages of developing a movie within the 'Game of Thrones' universe, marking a potential extension of the franchise based on George R.R. Martin’s popular 'A Song of Ice and Fire' novels.

Sources confirmed to Deadline that preliminary discussions are underway, although no creative direction or key talent has been attached to the project, and Warner Bros. has not issued any formal comment.

The idea of a film comes five years after the 'Game of Thrones' HBO series, created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, concluded its eight-season run, capturing high ratings, extensive critical acclaim, and securing 59 Emmy Awards. The series, which aired from 2011 to 2019, drew millions of fans with its story of political strife, supernatural elements, and battles among noble houses vying for the Iron Throne across the continents of Westeros and Essos. Although its final season stirred divided opinions among viewers, the show's success has spurred multiple spin-offs.

One such spin-off, 'House of the Dragon,' co-created by Ryan Condal and Martin, is set in Westeros' Targaryen dynasty era and recently returned for a second season, with a third season confirmed. Additionally, HBO is producing 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,' a prequel series based on Martin’s 'Tales of Dunk and Egg,' which is expected to premiere next year.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to reveal Warner Bros.' interest in a 'Game of Thrones' movie, though the project's timeline remains undetermined as discussions are still in the early stages.
