PHC grants PTI’s Raja Basharat bail extension till Nov 21
The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ruled that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Raja Basharat should not be arrested until November 21.
The order was issued during a hearing on Thursday in response to Basharat's request for details on cases filed against him, Express News reported.
Justice Shakeel Ahmad and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah Khan presided over the hearing, instructing the Interior Secretary to submit a revised response within 14 days. The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) presented a report, and ANF counsel informed the court that Basharat was not required in any of the ANF cases.
Justice Shakeel Ahmad asked the Assistant Attorney General about the status of the Interior Secretary’s report, to which he replied that details were still being collected nationwide and requested additional time.
The court then extended Basharat’s protective bail until November 21.
Previously, PHC also approved interim bail for PTI members Raja Basharat, Alia Hamza, and Sanam Javed.
The hearing for Raja Basharat's bail application took place before Justice Faheem Wali, Express News reported.
The applicant's lawyer, Alam Khan Adeenzi, argued that Raja Basharat is facing terrorism charges in Taxila, which he claims are politically motivated and unfounded. He assured the court that Raja Basharat intends to appear before the relevant court but fears arrest.
The court granted Basharat interim bail until November 3 and ordered him to appear in the specified court.
Similarly, hearings for Alia Hamza and Sanam Javed's bail applications were also conducted in front of Justice Faheem Wali. The court approved their interim bail until November 8.
