Whoopi Goldberg set the record straight on The View about comments made by Joe Rogan and former president Donald Trump, who claimed that The View once welcomed Trump warmly.

Rogan, who recently interviewed Trump on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience, stated that Trump appeared on The View in 2015 and was met with warmth from the hosts. Goldberg quickly addressed the “fake news” remark, clarifying that Trump’s appearance was actually in 2011, “four years before he announced he was running.”

The alleged friendliness, according to Goldberg, was also misrepresented. Rogan’s claim that Trump was introduced as “our friend” was inaccurate, Goldberg explained, adding that it was co-host Barbara Walters who referred to Trump as “my friend.” Goldberg noted her own reaction on the couch at the time, saying, “Did I look warm and fuzzy? Was that a warm and fuzzy welcome for him?” She further elaborated that out of respect for Walters, she remained polite, even though she disagreed with Trump’s views, particularly regarding his focus on President Barack Obama’s birth certificate.

Goldberg revisited the 2011 clip where she called Trump’s remarks on Obama’s birthplace “the biggest pile of dog mess I’ve heard in ages.” Goldberg challenged Trump directly at the time, saying, “I’ve never heard of any white president being asked to show a birth certificate. That’s B.S.”

Addressing Rogan’s assumption, Goldberg stated, “I don’t like how he talks to us, I don’t like how he talks to the nation.” She continued, noting the state of the country’s political climate, “Our focus is making sure we get the right person in the right job to lead the country out of the malaise we’re all in.”

In response to Trump’s recent remarks calling The View hosts “really dumb people” at a campaign rally, Goldberg defended her comedy background, recalling that Trump had hired her several times to perform at his casino. “I was filthy, and stand on that fact,” she replied. “You didn’t know what you were getting? How dumb are you?”
