LAHORE:

The need for stringent oversight at the local level to curb human smuggling and trafficking effectively was stressed in a meeting of a parliamentary working group.

The Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO), in collaboration with the British High Commission, held the inaugural meeting of the Parliamentary Working Group aimed at addressing human smuggling and trafficking.

The meeting brought together parliamentarians and senior officials from various departments to formulate an action plan for the prevention of these illicit activities.

During the meeting, participants exchanged suggestions and proposed the formation of a special parliamentary committee to monitor the performance of district administrations and law enforcement agencies in Punjab.

The parliamentarians noted that while brain drain is acceptable if conducted through legal channels, it is vital to instill confidence in the youth. They highlighted the potential for young people to establish small businesses domestically.
