Dow University, Central Jail get solar power system

KARACHI:

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah launched a series of key infrastructure and energy projects across the city, aimed at improving the city's recreational facilities, road networks, and energy sustainability.

Accompanied by cabinet members, including Sharjeel Memon and Saeed Ghani, the CM inaugurated multiple road and solarisation projects, along with a football ground during his five-hour visit.

The CM inaugurated three major road projects in districts West and Central. Mirza Adam Road, a 1.6km dual carriageway, costing Rs901 million, connects Sher Shah Chowk to Mirza Adam Khan Road and features a storm water drainage system to prevent flooding.

Café Piyala Road, constructed for Rs9.753 million, this 4km road links Sakhi Hassan to Rashid Minhas Road, improving access to Cardio and Mamji hospitals.

Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan, a 6.1km main track with a 4.35km service road, built for Rs3.367 billion, aims to reduce traffic congestion in North Nazimabad and North Karachi by offering an alternative to Shahrah-e-Sher Shah Suri.

Solarisation of public buildings

The CM inaugurated solar energy systems at key public institutions. Dow University Hospital, Ojha Campus was equipped with a 2.32MW solar power system at a cost of Rs290 million, ensuring long-term savings.

Central Jail Karachi was installed with a 614.8KW solar power system for Rs216 million, providing surplus energy to the KE Grid. The project is expected to recover its cost within three years, saving Rs64.26 million annually.

The CM also opened the renovated Shaheen Football Ground and Park in Manzoor Colony, developed under the CLICK schemes for Rs213 million. The 5.5-acre ground features seating for 400 spectators, a clubhouse, and floodlights, while the adjoining 2.04-acre family park includes walking paths, a children's play area, and other upgraded facilities.

At the football ground inauguration, the CM announced plans to bypass the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) by building a provincial transmission line for evacuating power from the Manjhad Solar Park. He also shared that 50 government buildings had been solarized in the first phase, with further expansion underway.
