The scrutiny of nomination papers for the upcoming by-elections in three wards of two cantonment boards in Rawalpindi district has been completed.
Out of the submitted papers, five candidates were disqualified, leaving 34 candidates in the running for the three seats.
Election authorities expect 15 to 18 candidates to withdraw their nomination papers by October 25, which is the final withdrawal date. The official list of candidates will be released on October 26, and polling will take place on November 14, from 8am to 5pm.
These by-elections are set for Ward 6 of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and Wards 4 and 8 of the Wah Cantonment Board.
For Ward 6 of Rawalpindi Cantt Board, the candidates include Maqsood Ali, Tariq Mehmood, Malik Abdul Rauf, Taiyab Iftikhar, Zeeshan Mughal, Muhammad Kamran, Malik Adeel, Gibran Haider, Pirzada Muhammad Zeeshan Ali, Ejaz Ahmed, and Nawaz Khan.
In Ward 4 of Wah Cantt Board, candidates are Amjad Mehmood, Asif Mehmood, Malik Salim Khan, Muhammad Aqeel, Muhammad Sajjad, Muhammad Umar, Muhammad Zahid Khan, Muhammad Zaman, Raja Muhammad Adeel, and Syed Tanveer Abbas. For Ward 8, the candidates include Abdul Samad, Asad Basheer, Daniyal Anwar, Farrukh Nawaz, Hamas Ahmed, Muhammad Shahan, Muhammad Zahid, Parvez Iqbal, Sohail Ahmed, Toqir Iqbal, Tauseef Ahmed, and Zain Al-Arifin.
The nomination papers of Muhammad Iqbal, Hadis, Tahseen Javed, Haseeb Amjad, and Malik Ismail were rejected during scrutiny.
Election activities have intensified in all three wards, with candidates actively campaigning and seeking votes by appealing to communal and sectarian sentiments.
Candidates from major political parties are participating in the elections, attending local social events such as weddings and funerals to garner support.
