Morning commuters suffer traffic nightmare

Truck breakdown chokes National Highway

KARACHI:

On Monday morning, a truck's breakdown on the Malir-Quaidabad Bridge brought the traffic on National Highway to a standstill. Commuters faced gruelling hours-long delays on their way to work, school, and university, turning typically brief journeys into frustratingly long waits. Citizens expressed outrage over the traffic authorities.

Citizens expressed frustration that police officers are prioritising vehicle challans over traffic management, with officers frequently stopping vehicles in groups on highways.

Moreover, officers are engaging in hazardous tactics, such as suddenly stepping into moving traffic to halt vehicles.

Sindh Inspector General (IG) Ghulam Nabi Memon has issued a stern warning to traffic police upon assuming office again, directing them to cease the practice of deploying officials in groups solely for issuing challans. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action. However, the directive has been all media talk and no action.

Meanwhile, the CM Sindh has stressed the urgency of resolving the traffic crisis to alleviate citizen woes.
