Will SRK play an assassin in upcoming 'King'?
Now that he has cemented his legendary status and can pick and discard roles at will, Bollywood's golden hero Shah Rukh Khan is doing what every father can dream of: working with his own daughter. With the superstar set to make an explosive comeback in 2025 alongside daughter Suhana in her debut silver screen role in King, here is everything we know so far about the most anticipated film of the coming year.
For a start, according to a report shared by Times Now, the duo will not be playing father and daughter, laying to rest public speculation. Shah Rukh has publicly voiced his desire for a meaty, action-packed role, and true to his wishes, he will be bringing to life a professional assassin – a far cry from the turn-of-the-century romantic hero. As per the Hindustan Times, Shah Rukh's daughter Suhana Khan will portray the role of a girl who has lost her family and is now under said assassin's protection.
If you are among the fans who are thinking that this plot bears a striking resemblance to the 1994 French film Léon: The Professional, you are not wrong. For the unversed, Léon: The Professional charts the story of a twelve-year-old girl who is taken in by a professional assassin after her family is murdered. According to an unnamed source, King is heavily inspired by Léon, although the upcoming Bollywood film is sure to carve its own stamp.
"It isn't Léon completely, but yeah, the basic plot in King is inspired by it," conceded the source. "Shah Rukh was keen to team up with his daughter in a subject where they weren't playing father and daughter. The Léon format hits all the right buttons."
Shah Rukh has already broken out of the romantic hero mould with his performances in Pathaan and Jawan. His sheer presence in the upcoming film, regardless, of the role, is sure to drive up cinema ticket sales wherever King is played. Suhana, meanwhile, has a chance at carving out her own fanbase as she steps in front of the camera with her father. The up-and-coming actor was last seen in the Netflix show The Archies, an Indian take on the globally adored Archie comics. Suhana played the role of Veronica 'Ronnie' Lodge as part of an ensemble cast that included Agastya Nanda and Khushi Kapoor
