Kylian Mbappé has strongly denied allegations reported in the Swedish media that claim he is “suspected on reasonable grounds of rape.”

Multiple Swedish outlets, including public broadcaster SVT and CNN affiliate Expressen, cited police reports linking Mbappé to an alleged incident after visiting a nightclub and staying at a hotel in Stockholm on October 10.

Swedish prosecutors confirmed that a criminal report had been filed following media reports of a suspected rape but did not name any specific individuals.

Swedish police explained that "suspicion on reasonable grounds" indicates there are “specific circumstances that indicate, to some extent, that the person in question has committed the act.” When contacted, prosecutors declined to provide further details.

In response to these reports, Mbappé labeled the claims as “FAKE NEWS” in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, reacting to a similar story shared by French outlet RMC Sport, which later deleted its post.

Mbappé’s representative, speaking through a public relations firm, told CNN, “A new slanderous rumor is starting to set the web ablaze, originating from the Swedish media AFTONBLADET and EXPRESSEN. These accusations are totally false and irresponsible, and their spread is unacceptable. Kylian Mbappé will not tolerate under any circumstances that his integrity, reputation, and honor be tarnished by unfounded insinuations.”

The representative added that legal action would be taken to "re-establish the truth and pursue any person or media involved in the moral harassment and defamatory treatment that Kylian Mbappé repeatedly suffers."

Mbappé’s lawyer, Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard, also defended the Real Madrid star during an appearance on French TV channel TF1.

She called the reports a “slanderous denunciation” and said Mbappé remained “absolutely calm” despite the allegations. Canu-Bernard noted, “He is completely flabbergasted from this type of media frenzy and he doesn’t understand what could be held against him from afar or up close.” She further clarified, “We’re talking about a complaint, a complaint submitted – but at this time, we don’t know against whom. A complaint does not make the truth.”

Mbappé, who did not feature in France’s recent UEFA Nations League victories over Israel and Belgium, had traveled to Stockholm last week, spending Thursday and Friday in the Swedish capital.

As of now, Mbappé's legal team is preparing to take all necessary actions to defend his name against what they consider to be unfounded and damaging rumors.
