Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader and National Assembly member Shazia Marri said on Tuesday that a meeting between PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was held in a "positive atmosphere," marking a thaw in relations.

Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Marri emphasised that the meeting, which took place in a "pleasant environment," helped to bridge differences and resulted in a constructive dialogue between the two parties.

"Bilawal Bhutto Zardari shed light on the historical ties between the PPP and JUI, especially during the 18th Amendment. Both parties have maintained clear intentions regarding legislation and constitution-making," Marri said.

She recalled the Charter of Democracy in 2006, which also references the Federal Constitutional Court, noting that the PPP's desire is for any amendments to the constitution to pass with a two-thirds majority.

"Political dialogue remains crucial even today," Marri added, stressing that "nothing is impossible in politics." She expressed hope that the PPP and JUI would agree on a draft to present to other parties for consensus.

“We will find a political solution to every issue. Today's meeting did not suggest any opposition from their side,” she said, describing the discussions as "productive."

Marri highlighted the desire to draft a mutual agreement between the PPP and JUI, ensuring that any proposed constitutional amendments are not contradictory. Bilawal, she said, is keen on reaching a political consensus to ensure the amendments remain non-controversial.

"Both sides discussed every aspect, and we are willing to engage with all parties for the country's benefit," Marri concluded.
