National athletes Shajar Abbas and Tameem Khan were named Pakistan's fastest athletes during a competition at Punjab Stadium in Lahore, organized by the Pakistan Athletics Federation in partnership with a local college.
Over 50 athletes participated in the event, vying for the title of the fastest male and female sprinters in the country.
Shajar Abbas once again proved his mettle, setting a new national record in the 100-meter race with an impressive time of 10.34 seconds.
Pakistan Army athlete Naveed secured the second position in the same event.
On the women's side, Tameem Khan from the Pakistan Army emerged victorious, completing the 100-meter distance in 11.80 seconds, earning her the title of Pakistan's fastest woman athlete.
Faiqa Riaz, who represented Pakistan at the Olympics, finished second in the 100-meter final with a time of 12.50 seconds.
Safinaaz from the Pakistan Navy claimed the third position in the women's race.
Recently, Pakistan's top squash player, Muhammad Asim Khan, secured his first career World Tour title by triumphing at the Charlottesville Open Squash Championship 2024.
Held in the US state of Virginia, Asim defeated top-seeded English player Nick Wall in an intense 65-minute final.
The match saw Asim lose the first game 12-14 but make a remarkable comeback to win the next three games 12-10, 11-5, and 11-6, clinching the title in a thrilling 3-1 victory. The win brings great pride to Pakistan as it marks Asim’s debut World Tour championship triumph.
The Charlottesville Open, featuring a total prize pool of $28,750, was a significant milestone in Asim Khan’s career.
With this victory, he also gained 500 ranking points, which are expected to boost his global standing.
