The Punjab Meteorological Department has announced that rainfall is expected to persist in Punjab till October 8, accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.

In a statement reported by Express News on Saturday, the department specified that rainfall is anticipated in several cities, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, and Hafizabad.

The forecast also indicated that from October 6, areas such as Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, and Bhakkar are likely to experience rain accompanied by strong winds.

Irfan Ali Kathia, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), has instructed district coordination officers and local administrations across the province to remain alert.

The PDMA control room will monitor the situation closely while rescue teams, including the 1122 service, have been put on standby with the necessary equipment and personnel, he added. He urged prompt drainage of water from flood-prone areas and advised the public to exercise caution, staying away from electric poles and dangling wires.

Residents were also advised to avoid makeshift houses and dilapidated buildings, ensuring children do not go near standing water in low-lying areas. Citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129 in case of any assistance.
