Driving licences of frequent violators will be revoked
Traffic Police DIG Ahmed Nawaz has warned that the licences of drivers guilty of repeated rules violations will be revoked. "Licences of such drivers will be seized, cancelled, and sent to the relevant licencing branch, effectively revoking their driving privileges," he said during a meeting at his office on Wednesday.
Attendees at the meeting included the SSP Traffic of District West and all section officers.
DIG Nawaz also warned that commercial vehicles prone to breakdowns, disrupting traffic flow, will face strict penalties. "Such vehicles will be impounded, and their fitness letter cancelled," he added. "The vehicle will not be allowed back on the road unless it is fully restored to a safe and operational condition."
DIG Nawaz directed all DSPs, along with their section officers, to identify accident-prone locations and develop tailored strategies to enhance safety. This will involve a thorough evaluation of underlying causes and contributing factors. The goal is to provide the public with secure travel facilities by addressing the root causes, he added.
It was decided that to prevent accidents caused by infrastructure issues, areas with road defects will be repaired and defects eliminated through collaboration with relevant departments. Locations with pedestrian bridges will be equipped with clear signboards indicating low-speed limits for vehicles.
