Gary Lineker's 18-year-old nephew tragically lost his life after being crushed by a falling tree trunk while working as a tree surgeon, an inquest revealed.
Jonty Parkinson, the nephew-in-law of the Match of the Day presenter through his marriage to his first wife Michelle, passed away from a crush injury to his abdomen following the incident in Oxfordshire.
An inquest began last week at Oxford Coroner’s Court, where it was shared that Mr. Parkinson, who lived in Coln St. Aldwyns, Cirencester, died on Friday, September 6.
The hearing on September 25, presided over by senior coroner Darren Salter, confirmed that the tragic event occurred while the 18-year-old was carrying out his duties as a tree surgeon.
Local social media channels have been flooded with tributes, and a GoFundMe page has been established in Jonty's memory, raising over £30,000.
Organized by family friend Allison Murray, the fundraiser stated: "To friends of Bob and Ali Parkinson, I have started this fundraiser to help them create a beautiful memorial or event to celebrate the life of their much loved son Jonty, who tragically lost his life on the 6th September."
"I realise money can't fill the great chasm of loss they are feeling but I hope it can be used to ease the burden of funeral expenses or go towards a fitting memorial for Jonty or in anyway the family see fit."
The funeral for Mr. Parkinson reportedly took place last Friday, with several local businesses near his home in Gloucestershire closing for the day to allow employees to attend.
Gary Lineker has not yet commented on the passing of his nephew-in-law.
According to the Oxford Mail, the fatal incident occurred in Eaton Hastings, and a date for the full inquest is yet to be set.
The sad news of Jonty's death first came to light last month when two of Lineker's sons from his first marriage shared heartfelt tributes on social media.
George, 31, posted an Instagram story featuring a childhood photo of himself with Jonty, accompanied by the caption: "One of the nicest boys you'll meet, taken far too soon. Fly high cousin, you'll be missed by all."
Meanwhile, Tobias, 28, shared a picture of Jonty smiling as a child, with a message saying: "Taken from us far too soon, rest in peace little cousin."
