Television actor Ahad Raza Mir rang in his 31st birthday on Sunday with a low-key celebration involving close family and friends. As seen on Instagram, the birthday boy sat in the centre of a selfie video clip as well-wishers, including father and showbiz veteran Asif Raza Mir, gathered close to (what else?) sing a hearty rendition of Happy Birthday.

"It's my birthday," says the Yeh Dil Mera actor as the video kicks off with his loved ones swarming around him to celebrate. Self-deprecatingly accepting that he cannot escape his fate, looks half delighted and half mortified at being the centre of attention. Halfway through, he can be seen giving in and dramatically conducting the remainder of the song.

"That's the best birthday I've ever had," he adds as the final note trails off. "Thank you so much!"

Meanwhile, Ahad's mother, musician Samra Raza Mir, also made sure to mark the occasion on social media with a tongue-in-cheek birthday note to her eldest son.

"Happy birthday, my love," began Samra. "Without me, who knows where you would have been born? Probably far, far away in the land of Shakespeare (saved you from being born in the wrong century.)" Continuing in the same witty vein, Samra added, "Let's face it, it wouldn't even be you. Who gave you this gorgeous face? Me. You'd better thank me." Almost as an afterthought, Samra ended her wholesome note with, "Ok, some looks from Baba too."

Ahad himself, meanwhile, marked his birthday by taking his Instagram handle to address what he terms to be an educational crisis in the country. Showcasing his work with The Citizens Foundation, Ahad posted a video of himself interacting with schoolchildren. "The joy you get from receiving an education - there's nothing like it," he said in his video, which was met with an abundance of happy comments.

"He's so down to earth," noted one fan. Following the same theme, another added, "I'm so proud of being a fan."

Ahad began his showbiz career in 2010 at age 17 with a brief role in Khamosiyan. He rose to prominence after his performance in Yaqeen Ka Safar (2017). He captured hearts in Ehd-e-Wafa (2019), Yeh Dil Mera (2019) and Hum Tum (2022). Ahad will next be seen in Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo, Pakistan's first Netflix original. The series was slated for a September release, but as per Netflix, due to unforeseen delays, the exact release date has yet to be confirmed.
