RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has developed a community park on the land owned by the government in Khayaban Sirsyed, receiving welcoming gestures from the locals. PML-N MNA Muhammad Hanif Abbasi led the RMC to build a park by allocating land.

The RMC earlier cancelled the allotment of the plots allotted by an organisation after eight years of litigation on the 30-kanal land of Khayaban Sirsyed. Officials first demolished 15 houses built there to develop the park for the residents of the area at a cost of Rs120 million.

According to the details, the Housing and Physical Planning Department of Punjab had allotted regular plots to various people on 30 kanals of land owned by the RMC in Khayaban Sirsyed. The corporation won the case in the Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) to cancel the allotment after eight years.

The efforts to re-allot the plots on the said land were defeated with the support of MNA Hanif Abbasi who also managed Rs120m from the Punjab government.

Earlier, not only plots were allotted on the 30-kanal of land, but 15 houses were also constructed. After winning the case from the court, the RMC demolished the houses and took possession of the said land. About 70% of the construction of the park has been completed. The park has a jogging track, green area, walking area, and play area.

Enthusiastic citizens have started using the park despite its non-completion.

Sources in the RMC said that the park would officially be inaugurated after 100% completion of work and it will be regularly opened to area residents. There was no park for residents in the area, they added.
