Snoop Dogg says 2Pac “was a better dad than” him

The rapper shared how 2Pac played a pivotal role in his son Corde's early life during an interview with PEOPLE.

Snoop Dogg recently opened up about the close bond between his late friend 2Pac and his son, Corde. 

In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Snoop reflected on the significant impact 2Pac had on Corde’s upbringing, admitting that the legendary rapper was "a better dad" to his son during a crucial time in his career.

Snoop explained how he brought Corde to the studio while working on his 1996 album, Tha Doggfather. “When [Corde] was old enough… I started taking him to the studio with me. … So I’m raising him around all of the homies,” Snoop said, recalling those early days. He added, “Tupac loved him. It’s like his nephew. Tupac was a better dad than me. We’ve been up here [in the recording studio for] three hours and we ain’t got him nothing to eat. It’s like I’m up here rapping and sh*t, I’m not being a father. [He was] training me.”

2Pac tragically passed away in 1996, but Snoop continued reflecting on his own growth as a father after welcoming his second son, Cordell, a year later. Football, he said, helped shape his parenting skills. “Football helped me to become a real good father because I was around other men… so much I could learn from them,” Snoop recalled.

Snoop also touched on his relationship with 2Pac when launching Death Row Cannabis products, revealing that 2Pac introduced him to blunts at the wrap party for Poetic Justice. 

The friendship left a lasting impact on Snoop, who continues to pay tribute to his late friend.
