BISE results: Success rate declines by five points
Education minister asks students to eradicate corruption.
LAHORE:
As many as 69,904 of the 149,805 students who sat Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) intermediate part II examinations were declared successful on Saturday.
Overall pass percentage dropped by five points from last year to 46.6 percent. The pass percentage for boys was 34.62 and for girls 54.63 percent.
In 2010, 141,467 students had sat the exam and 73,501 declared pass – a pass percentage of 51.96 percent.
A medal awarding ceremony was held at Alhamra on Saturday to honour the top position holders announced earlier on Friday evening.
Cash prizes of Rs 20,000; Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 were presented to the first, second and third position holders in all groups.
The student securing overall first position was awarded with a Pentium IV desktop computer.
Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman called upon the students to play their roles in eliminating corruption from the country. He said the students should discourage people around them from corrupt practices. The education minister later spoke about the steps taken by the government to reform the education system in the province.
According to a BISE announcement on Friday, the top three positions were bagged by students of Kinnaird College for Women. Two KC students shared the third position with a student of the Government Islamia College Civil Lines. Hira Iftikhar secured the first position by obtaining 1039 marks; Javaria Tehzeeb stood second with 1,036 marks and Anam Manzoor, Rubab Haider Jafri and Ali Ayub tied for third position with 1028 marks.
In the pre-medical group, Government College University students secured all three positions among boys and Kinnaird College of Women students in girls.
Muhammad Arslan Arshad stood first with 1021 marks; Ahmad Bani Sadar stood second with 1,018 marks and Mohammad Hamza third with 1,013 marks.
Hira Iftikhar stood first with 1,039 marks; Javaria Tehzeeb second with 1,036 marks and Anam Manzoor and Rubar Haider Jafri third with 1,028 marks respectively.
In pre-engineering group, Ali Ayub of Government Islamia College Civil Lines stood first with 1,028 marks and Mohammad Omer Ajmal and Ammadud Din Joya of Government College University stood second and third by getting 1,027 and 1,026 marks, respectively.
In Pre-Engineering Group (among girls), Anam Sadiq of Punjab College for Women, Muslim Town stood first by getting 1,025 marks. Ayesha Zulfiqar and Maryam Khalid of Kinnaird College for Women stood second and third by getting 1,016 and 1,015 marks, respectively.
In the General Science Group (among boys), Ashas Ahmad of Government College University stood first with 992 marks, Hafiz Muhammad Salman Saeed and Daniyal Haleem of Government College University stood second and third by getting 976 and 970 marks, respectively. Among the girls in this group, Abeer Shahbaz of Government Queen Mary College secured first position by getting 985 marks. Ramshah Jahangir of Lahore College for Women University stood second getting 985 marks. Mustabeen Iqbal and Nida Khaild of Kinnaird College for Women secured third position by getting 980 and 969 marks each.
Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman was the chief guest at the ceremony.
MPA Khawaja Iran Nazir, Higher Education Additional Secretary Zarak Mirza and Government College University Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman were also present on the occasion.
