Amazon MGM Studios has confirmed that a Sims movie adaptation is officially in development, with Margot Robbie and her husband, Tom Ackerley, set to produce under their LuckyChap Entertainment banner.

This comes after the duo’s recent success with blockbuster hits Barbie and Saltburn. The couple, who are also reportedly working on a Monopoly movie, are now tackling the popular EA video game The Sims.

Kate Herron, best known for her work on Loki, is on board to direct the film and co-write the script with Briony Redman. LuckyChap and Vertigo Entertainment will produce alongside Electronic Arts’ The Sims team, with Herron and Redman also serving as executive producers.

The Sims, developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, has been a massive hit since its release in 2000, selling nearly 200 million copies worldwide. The game allows players to create and control virtual characters known as "Sims" in an open-ended, sandbox environment.

While plot details remain under wraps, this isn’t the first attempt at a Sims movie; 20th Century Fox previously acquired the rights in 2007, though the project never moved forward.

Robbie and Ackerley’s continued partnership with Amazon MGM Studios follows successful collaborations on projects like Saltburn and My Old Ass. Their production company, LuckyChap, is also behind the Oscar-nominated Barbie film, which became the highest-grossing movie of 2023.
