RAWALPINDI:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Monday termed the reported government plan to establish constitutional court in the country a drama, alleging that the rulers wanted to destroy the judiciary.

Talking to journalists during the hearing of new Toshakhana case in Adiala Jail, the PTI founder also alleged that the purpose of the government's constitutional amendment plan was to keep him in jail and to push the PTI to the wall.

The PTI founder claimed that the rule of law had collapsed in Pakistan, as the country suffered political instability. "In the current situation, I stand with the judiciary, judges and the journalist community," he said.

Commenting on the constitutional amendment package, prepared by the government, Imran said that it would be harmful for the country's future. "The rulers have decided to destroy the judiciary," he charged.

"All this is being done because they wanted to hide the [February 2024] election fraud. They are afraid that if the election case is opened, everything will be reversed," he said. "All this is happening against the national interest."

Imran accused the rulers of stashing money abroad and claimed that those in power were against an independent judiciary. He added that their primary concern was to cover up election fraud and protect their wealth.

In the last months, Imran said, 4,000 Pakistani companies were registered abroad but they didn't care because their own money and properties were also out there. "This is the problem with our country's future," he added.

Imran criticised Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa. He said that the government wanted the chief justice to continue, because after his retirement [next month] human rights petitions will be heard. "Out of that fear, they are destroying the country."

At this time, the PTI founder said, Pakistan could be saved by the rule of law, political stability and the overseas Pakistanis. He added that the PTI would hold a historic rally in Lahore.
