Taylor Zakhar Perez, star of the hit rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue, has hinted at the possibility of the film turning into a trilogy.
During a red carpet interview at the 2024 Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, 15 September, Perez discussed the potential future of the franchise.
When asked if he expected a sequel during filming, Perez shared with Variety, "I think I hoped." The sequel, which is already in development, was confirmed by Amazon MGM Studios on 10 May 2023.
Reflecting on the original book by Casey McQuiston, Perez said, "It was a great book and it kind of left you hanging after you read it."
Perez didn’t stop at the sequel, expressing a desire for more: "I hope that there’s three of them," he stated, suggesting that the story could make "a nice trilogy."
The actor was also asked whether Red, White & Royal Blue could one day be adapted into a musical. Perez responded lightheartedly, saying, "Hey, that would be fun! As long as the musical’s funny. We need a very funny musical."
Directed by Matthew López, Red, White & Royal Blue was a major success after its release in July 2023. The film featured a star-studded cast, including Uma Thurman and Stephen Fry. It was also nominated for outstanding television movie at this year's Emmy Awards.
