Around 139,000 primary schoolteachers across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa have announced a strike throughout the province after the government announced the decision to drop their proposed upgradation.
All Primary Teachers Association (ATPA) has announced plans to take to the streets and lock schools on October 7.
On Saturday, a meeting was held to discuss the situation and was chaired by the president of the association. Addressing the meeting, K-P ATPA President Azizullah outlined the plan of action. "We will hold demonstrations outside all press clubs across the province, accompanied by street rallies and school lockdowns," he announced.
A sit-in will be held on October 7. As a result, more than 25,000 primary schools in the province will be shut down, with thousands of primary school teachers "converging on Peshawar for a historic sit-in". He warned that all the responsibility of the situation will be on the provincial government.
On this occasion, the presidents and general secretaries from across the province participated in the general body meeting.
Addressing the gathering, they outlined the plan of action, saying that in the first phase, they would symbolically lock schools. "In the second phase, we will hold a sit-in," it was asserted.
