RAWALPINDI:

Two major hospitals, one located near Rawat and the other at Jorian Chakri in Rawalpindi district, are nearing completion.

These hospitals, initiated during the previous government, have now reached their final stages of development, with preparations underway for their operational launch.

The Rawat Pothohar Town Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, designed to accommodate 100 beds, and the Jorian Chakri Road Hospital, with a capacity of 60 beds, together have an estimated cost exceeding Rs1.4 billion.

Construction of both hospital buildings has been completed, and the procurement process for medical equipment is underway. Final finishing touches are expected to begin next month. The foundation stone for these projects was laid by former federal minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan.

The Jorian Chakri Hospital, located near the Motorway, along with the Rawat Pothohar Town Hospital, will both feature essential medical services such as outpatient departments (OPDs) and emergency wards, and each hospital will be equipped with two to three operation theatres. These facilities are expected to play a crucial role in reducing traffic accident fatalities by providing immediate emergency medical assistance to those injured on the GT Road and Motorway.

Previously, it took patients nearly two hours to reach the District Headquarters Hospital in Rawalpindi city.

In addition to emergency services, the hospitals will offer specialised care, including children's and gynaecology wards. The opening of these hospitals is being planned for December 31, 2024. Chairman of the District Coordination Development Committee, MNA Engineer Qamarul Islam Rawat, will inaugurate the Pothohar Town Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital.
