SHC seeks response on NAB's appeal in JJVL reference

.

KARACHI:

The Sindh High Court has sought replies on NAB's appeal against the Accountability Court's order to return the Jamshoro Joint Venture Limited (JJVL) reference to the NAB.

During the hearing of the appeal at the high court, the NAB prosecutor argued that the Accountability Court's decision to return the reference to the NAB was illegal and contrary to the law. He stated that the new amendments do not apply to the JJVL reference and the Accountability Court's order should be declared null and void.

After hearing the arguments the court issued notices to the parties and sought responses within four weeks. The NAB had filed a Rs17 billion corruption reference in 2015 against Iqbal Zafar Ahmed, the only bidder out of six who showed up for the multi-million-dollar project to extract liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from its pipelines.

Mayor issued notices

The SHC has issued notices to Karachi Mayor, KDA, and others against a petition challenging commercial activities on a residential plot. The petitioner's lawyer argued that commercial activities were being carried out on a residential plot in Block 3 of Johar, despite a restraining order issued in 2017.
