Another crucial meeting was postponed on Friday because of ongoing bickering between the top leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and other leaders over the choice of office-bearers at the federal and provincial level.
The meeting was originally scheduled for Monday last week.
Chief of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is reported to have once received a terse response from Saranjaam Khan, a close colleague, during a discussion over how to ‘choose’ new office-bearers at the central and provincial levels.
When Nawaz Sharif insisted that he would choose them, Saranjaam Khan angrily retorted that he would not “allow” Sharif to turn the party into a “family fiefdom”.
The party veteran from Mardan said: “Stop trying to be a dictator. We will never accept this.” The meeting, held in the last week of July, was attended by Nawaz Sharif’s close associates. Since then the main opposition party is struggling to finalise candidates for key provincial posts, though it somehow managed to hold federal level ‘elections’.
