Maulana Hidayatur Rehman, leader of the Haq Du Tehreek party and MPA from Gwadar, has announced a sit-in on the coastal highway in Gwadar on September 5. This protest aims to address the severe shortages of clean drinking water and electricity, as well as the illegal trawling activities that are affecting local fishermen.
During a press conference on August 31, Rehman criticized both the federal and provincial governments for their lack of support and engagement in resolving these issues. He emphasized his legitimacy as the true representative of Gwadar, having been elected through a legitimate electoral process on February 8.
Rehman highlighted the dire situation faced by local fishermen, stating that illegal trawling is decimating fish stocks, with 70% of the catch going to trawlers and only 30% left for Gwadar's fishermen. He vowed to take action against these practices and criticized the lack of government intervention.
The sit-in will continue until there is tangible progress on key issues, including water supply, electricity, and illegal trawling activities. Rehman also announced a boycott of the current assembly session in protest.
