In exciting news for fans of early 2000s TV drama, a sequel series to the beloved show One Tree Hill is officially in the works at Netflix, Variety reported. The sequel promises to revive the magic of Tree Hill with some familiar faces returning to the mix.

Sources reveal that original cast members Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles are set to executive produce the reboot. Ackles will helm the project through her Chaos Machine banner, in partnership with her husband, Jensen Ackles. The sequel will also see Becky Hartman-Edwards, known for her work on Firefly Lane and Parenthood, stepping in as a writer and executive producer. Warner Bros Television, which was behind the original series, will continue its role as the production powerhouse for this highly anticipated follow-up.

Bush and Burton are confirmed to reprise their iconic roles from the original series, with Bush returning as the sharp-witted Brooke Davis and Burton as the complex Peyton Sawyer. Ackles is also in talks to return, but as of now, it remains unclear whether other original stars, such as Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, or Bethany Joy Lenz, will join the sequel.

The original One Tree Hill, which ran for nine seasons on The WB and later on The CW, followed the lives of half-brothers Lucas Scott (Murray) and Nathan Scott (Lafferty) in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina. What began as a tale of rivalry over basketball evolved into a rich narrative of love, friendship, and family drama, captivating audiences and building a loyal fanbase.

Bush, Burton, and Lenz previously reunited to co-host the popular One Tree Hill rewatch podcast, Drama Queens, though Burton stepped away after Season 6 following her character's departure from the series. Robert Buckley, who joined the cast in Season 7, now completes the podcast trio.
