NICL scandal: Acting FIA chief named after 22 days

The authority has not yet accepted the resignation of former director-general.

Syed Tahsin Anwar Ali Shah, Director-General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), who tendered his resignation, has gone on long leave, while the interior ministry finally allowed the additional charge of director-general of the federal anti-corruption watchdog to Additional DG (Immigration) Chaudhry Muhammad Manzoor.


The competent authority has not yet accepted the resignation of Tahsin Anwar, who resigned to avoid working under his subordinate, Additional DG Zafar Qureshi.


After tendering his resignation 22 days ago, he had gone on leave on August 18.

On September 5, 2011 and September 6, 2011 Syed Tahsin Anwar Ali Shah had secretly visited the FIA Headquarters Islamabad after office hours but because his office visits were exposed by a  report carried by The Express Tribune on September 7, Shah requested the authority for extension of his leave till September 14, 2011, sources familiar with the matter revealed.

Chaudhry Muhammad Manzoor has assumed the charge as DG FIA, sources familiar with the matter further revealed.

Meanwhile, the meeting of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) ended on Thursday after Zafar Qureshi pointed out that the matter was sub judice as the case was being heard by the Supreme Court. He said that such proceedings might be construed as a contempt of court.
