Torrential rains lash Karachi, heavy showers continue across the city

Heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds and thunder, poured down across Karachi on Monday night, affecting various parts of the city.

The downpour, which began late in the evening, intensified with strong gusts of wind that lasted for several minutes.

According to Express News, the downpour hit several areas, including Gulistan-e-Johar, Rashid Minhas Road, North Karachi, FB Area, Buffer Zone, Ayesha Manzil, Karimabad, Nazimabad, and North Nazimabad.

The rain continued to drench these localities, causing concerns of potential flooding.

The torrential rain also spread to other key areas such as II Chundrigar Road, Tower, PECHS, Kashmir Road, MA Jinnah Road, Saddar, Lighthouse, Bolton Market, Clifton, Landhi, Korangi, and Malir, where thunder and lightning accompanied the heavy showers.

The storm caused trees and various objects to be uprooted, and roadside stalls were knocked over by the wind, spreading panic among residents.

As the rain continued, water accumulated in several areas, including Bahadurabad, Hasan Square, NIPA Chowrangi, Liaquatabad, Sharifabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 13-D/2, Scheme 33, Bhains Colony, Ahsanabad, Gulshan-e-Maymar, Korangi, Kala Pul, Karimabad, Ayesha Manzil, and Sharea Faisal.

The heavy rain, which persisted intermittently, resulted in severe traffic disruptions as streets flooded, making it difficult for residents to move around the city. Additionally, over 400 feeders were affected, leading to widespread power outages in areas such as Liaquatabad, Bahadurabad, Malir, Surjani Town, New Karachi, and North Karachi.

Residents in these areas were left without electricity as authorities struggled to restore power amidst the ongoing rain.

Earlier, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had forecasted intense rainfall across Sindh, including Karachi, due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal, which has since intensified.

The heavy rains are expected to continue through August 31.

Meanwhile, a K-Electric spokesperson urged residents to exercise caution when using electrical appliances during the rainy season.

They warned that the unsafe use of devices like water pumps in rain or standing water could lead to accidents.

The spokesperson further advised citizens to maintain a safe distance from TV and internet cables, broken wires, and electricity distribution installations.
