TikTok has unveiled a new feature allowing users to create AI simulations of their own voice within the app. This update enables users to voice over their TikTok clips with their own digital voice, moving beyond the generic voice options currently available.
App researcher Jonah Manzano shared images and noted that TikTok users can now select the option to “Create Your Own AI Voice” from the video voice-over menu. By speaking into their device, users can generate their AI voice and apply it to future clips, reducing the need for extensive vocal use. This feature also allows for translation of the custom voice-over into other languages.
The innovation stems from ByteDance’s research into AI voice replication, part of its broader AI initiatives. According to Business Insider, ByteDance developed a new AI model in January capable of accurately replicating a person’s voice with minimal input. The “StreamVoice” system can mimic virtually any speech in real-time, raising concerns about its potential use in creating convincing deepfakes and hoaxes.
Despite these concerns, social media platforms like Meta are also exploring similar AI voice technologies, with Meta enabling creators to develop AI chatbots that reflect their unique style and voice.
