Two siblings lost their lives due to suspected food poisoning, while their mother reportedly died in grief over the death of her children in Dadu district.
Police said that a man named Sikandar Shaikh and his three children fell unconscious after consuming a meal on Friday night at their residence in Kassai Mohalla, Mehar taluka of Dadu. They were rushed to a local clinic, where Shaikh's 12-year-old son, Junaid Shaikh, was pronounced dead.
The family was later referred to Shaheed Muhatarma Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Larkana, but his daughter, Tayabba, also died en route, the police added.
Sikandar, a well-known photographer from Mehar town, told local media that he and his children had eaten naan [bread] from a restaurant with chicken curry cooked at home.
Meanwhile, Rizwana, the mother, also passed away on Saturday, reportedly due to deep shock from the loss of her children.
SSP Dadu Ameer Saud Magsi took notice of the incident, prompting the A-Section police to seal the restaurant and arrest its owner, Kumar, and chef, Manzoor Khaskheli. As of now, the police have not filed an FIR as they are awaiting the postmortem reports.
In a related tragic incident, food poisoning in Pir Jo Goth, Khairpur district, which occurred on August 18, has claimed 12 lives.
