LAHORE:

A district court on Thursday granted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) a four-day physical remand of anchorperson Orya Maqbool Jan, who is accused of spreading religious hatred and making disrespectful remarks against state institutions in relation to the Mubarak Sani case.

The FIA's cybercrime wing arrested Jan for his alleged social media posts.

During the court proceedings, the FIA requested a 14-day remand to continue their investigation. However, Jan's lawyer, Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq, strongly opposed the request, arguing that his client had not insulted anyone and that the charges were "false and baseless."

He urged the court to dismiss the case, claiming that the FIA lacked evidence to support their allegations.

The FIA's investigation officer countered by stating that the accusations were valid and that Jan had been uncooperative during the investigation.

Jan, who also addressed the court, asserted that he had already provided the FIA with all the passwords to his social media accounts. "Have I stolen someone's car that needs to be recovered?" he remarked, questioning the necessity of his remand.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid approved a four-day remand, instructing the FIA to submit an investigation report at the conclusion of the remand period.
