Danielle Fishel, known for her role as Topanga Lawrence on Boy Meets World, revealed on her podcast Pod Meets World that she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer at the age of 43. On the August 19 episode, Fishel shared that she was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS), a non-invasive form of breast cancer, explaining that it is "technically stage zero."
Fishel disclosed that her diagnosis was "high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion" and that she is preparing for surgery. She initially intended to keep her diagnosis private, sharing the news only with close family and friends. However, after reading insights from author Glennon Doyle, Fishel decided to go public to help others who may be in similar situations. "They found it so, so, so early that I’m going to be fine," she said, emphasizing the importance of regular mammograms. Fishel encouraged listeners to prioritize their health and make necessary appointments. "If it’s time for your appointment, if you’ve never had an appointment before, get in there," she urged.
Fishel reassured her audience that she is optimistic about her prognosis, despite the challenges ahead. She mentioned that she is consulting with a team of doctors, including oncologists and radiation specialists, to determine the best course of action. Her Boy Meets World co-hosts, Rider Strong and Will Friedle, were among the first to offer their support. "You are going to be fine, and you might have some sucky days coming up, but we’re here for you," Friedle said during the episode.
